Dear Parents,

I will be sending home various activities for you to work on with your child.  These activities are intended to meet your child’s specific reading needs and may be completed numerous times.  Research shows that children need repeated exposure to words and spelling patterns in order to learn them.  Therefore, rereading books and completing word work activities many times will improve your child’s reading skills.

I will be sending home word work activities, such as Word Sorts, that your child has completed during his/her time with me.  Word work activities focus your child’s attention on the particular spelling patterns that are being studied and help them to read many words that fit those patterns.  It would be very beneficial to your child if he/she practiced these activities at home.

I would like to recommend that you create a special place to keep the word work activities so that your child may practice them whenever he/she gets the chance.  For example, a shoe box works nicely.

I appreciate your help working with your child at home as much as possible.  Happy reading!

                                                                                    Sincerely,

                                                                                    Mrs. Laubach
