African Masks
A great project that tied in with the Second grade theme on Africa. Students looked at a variety of masks and then had a discussion on what masks were used for and why. Next, they proceded to design their own masks focusing on the features common in African masks. They then built their masks using smimple clay slabs and and finally added texture, decoration, and glazed their mask to finish it.
