First stop: The Native Americans, their geographical regions, and the Explorers who were hoping to reach China In September, we finished our group presentations on the different Native American regions. The students did a wonderful job cooperating in this first oral retelling of important subject matter. Each group made a colorful poster and discussed the resources of the land, how the Native Americans adapted, used technology, and worked to feed and clothe their tribes. Our focus was on what these geographical regions provided its inhabitants of the Pacific Northwest, Desert Soutwest, Great Plains, and Eastern Woodlands regions of our present-day United States, and what they left behind that helps archeologists study what their cultures were all about. Great job, kids!
Our Last Unit..."Forming A New Nation" In fifth grade, you will learn so much about the founding of our young country. Native Americans, European exploration, the founding fathers, the documents of freedom, and how our nation was formed. We will wind up with discovering what problems the new United States government faced and how they attempted to solve them to bring our government where it is today. If you had to write a set of rules for your school what would those rules be? Have you ever thought about this? Would some rules be for just your class, while others would be for the entire school? As American leaders set up a government for our new country, they faced similar questions. We'll have fun learning about the challenges the colonists faced as they bravely set out after declaring their independence. On May 27th, we will have an awesome field trip to Riley's Farm--an authentic colonial town!
