Our New 2009-2010 Schedule Our school day officially begins at 9:15 am and ends at 3:15 pm. This schedule does change from time to time, but I do try to stick to it as much as possible. We have the schedule posted next to our calendar, and we review it daily so the children are aware of what lies ahead. 9:15-9:30 am - Children finish doing lunch count, morning message, and table toys. 9:30- 10:05 - Morning meeting and Calendar: This is connected to the responsive classroom and includes...greeting, activity, share, and daily news. - Calendar - We look over the days of the week, weather, temperature, good morning songs, and review patterns, sight words, and money. 10:05-10:35 Learning Literacy - We do various whole group activities to revew the letter of the week and sight word work. We use a curriculum through Harcourt which is based on phonemic awareness and phonics. The letters are not learned in order and the children begin by listening and playing with sounds before we learn the actual letter. We also use print daily and throughout the classroom to help children become comfortable with pretending to read so they feel comfortable and willing to take risks. 10:35-10:55- Literacy Stations/ Writer's Workshop/Handwriting- This begins slowly as the children get adjusted to moving from station to station. Stations include listening station, computers, writing around the room, playing games that focus on sounds, letters, and words, stamping, handwriting, and guided activities with the teacher. I typically work with small groups during this time, this will become a time where groups will meet to do guided reading. This will alternate with Writer's Workshop and Handwriting. At the beginning the year we will start with drawing pictures to connect to their stories. Next will be labeling the items in the pictures and using letters to represent their stories. 10:55-11:40- Recess first and then Lunch 11:40-12:00 Quiet Time (Now quiet reading or looking at books time) 12:00-12:15 Read Aloud time 12:15-12:30: Whole group Math (we follow everyday math) 12:30-12:55-Math tubs: small group activities where your child works on one math tub per day and sometimes works with a teacher.
