Take a peek at last week…
Morning Meeting:
Children began sharing items or stories. I am helping children feel comfortable when talking in front of the class, as well as helping them explain their share.
Reading and Listening:
We read the following books:
The Pumpkin Circle
There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly!
The Biggest Pumpkin
? We finished the letter Jj and began the letter Pp
? The children worked on learning the word ….the
? Guided reading-Your child should read the Jj book with a buddy and practiced pointing while reading. Many children are really just feeling very comfortable and confident with these books. Even though your child will be challenged even more, these books are good for your child to practice reading and to become fluent.
? Writer’s Workshop: The children wrote about what they were for Halloween.
? Creating our Jj book (we complete a class book for every letter of the alphabet) During this time your child reminds me to use a capital letter at the beginning of the sentence, and a period. We also talk about the reason for spaces in between words. As the children complete their pictures I have the sentences typed up. We then cut the sentence apart one word at a time and glue it back together.
Literacy Stations:
The children finished literacy stations. Now that they are feeling more comfortable with these stations, we will begin to integrate our big book as a focus for many of the centers. The big book that we will use is There Was An Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly!

News!
? BARNES AND NOBELS!: Tuesday the school is hosting a fundraiser at this store. A percentage of the purchases that day go to the school to help purchase items for the school. When you buy something you simply tell them you are with North Park. I will also be reading a couple of books around 4pm in the children’s reading corner and hope to see you there!! These are some of our favorite class books!
? Report Card Conferences: Reminders for your child’s conference went home last week, as well as a sign up sheet if you had not signed up for a conference. Please send this back ASAP if you have not yet done so. I look forward to meeting with all of you.
? This WEEK… I will not be in the classroom Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday of this week. I will be at a conference on Wed., assessing children for some 1st quarter assessments on Thursday, and at a district training on Friday. This is the first time I have not been in the classroom for a whole day, so please be aware that this may change various behaviors or the class dynamics.
? Family Project- I thoroughly enjoyed seeing the fantastic turkey projects that many of you turned in. If you have not handed it in please do so.
Please make sure your child has on a warm jacket and any other appropriate items in order for him or her to stay warm in this cold weather. Please help your child put on his/her jacket as well as helping to teach them how to zipper their coats.
