There are many factors determining a player’s participation in a game. Below are some of those factors:
a. The player’s athletic ability and skill level in basketball. b. The player’s attitude and effort in practice and in games. c. The player’s dedication to improvement and ability to be coachable and accept constructive criticism; d. The player’s ability to match-up against our opponent; e. The player’s ability to get along with the other players; f. The player’s willingness to “go the extra mile” before and after workout; g. The player’s “heart” and dedication to the sport and team; h. The player’s ability to put the team first instead of self.
Parents generally want to see the four best players and their son on the court at all times. If a parent has a complaint, question or concern about anything please email or call to arrange a meeting. I have an obligation to play the players that are fitting best into our system at the present time or for a particular match-up.
I just don't want to be blind-sided by an angry parent without knowing that there is a problem. I will do my best to work with you and respect you as parents; I expect the same in return.
Best course of action if there is a problem:
Have your son talk to me about the problem. Some parents love to fight battles for their kids; but unless it is an emergency situation or extremely out of their hands, let your kids deal with the problem as a young adult. I have found that 99 out of 100 times an honest explanation from me either ends the issue or will give your son a better understanding of where I am coming from in regards to the situation. I will be happy to provide your son with what is necessary to improve their game and improving their chance of seeing more time on the court in a game situation.
