September:

Playground Orientation- The physical education staff introduces playground rules to all Kindergarten and newcomers to Green Meadow.  We also will be playing some cooperative games to help students get familiar with their new classmates.

Soccer Spiral #1Skills and drills!!  We will be covering dribbling, passing, turning, shooting and marking.

Fitnessgram Testing and Activity Log Collection-  Students will participating in the Fitnessgram fitness testing.  This weeks test will include the pacer test, which measures aerobic capacity.  The test is progressive in intensity- it is easy in the beginning and gets harder at the end.  After, we will complete the activity log (in-school) and measure BMI (body mass index).

October:

Micro SoccerA 5 vs. 5 mini soccer game designed to maximize activity time and skill utilization.  The zone strategy creates more "one on one" opportunity, which encourages players to dribble, turn, and pass the soccer ball.  Micro soccer eliminates "magnet ball", which you will see in some elementary games.  Students will be introduced to beginner goal keeping skills during the micro soccer spiral.  Students will also be assessed on their knowledge of the micro soccer game and skills covered during the unit.

Wellness and Cross Country- Have you noticed the foot charms attached to your child's shoelaces?  Walking for Wellness and the Cross Country Unit have started at Green Meadow.  1 charm is equal to 5 laps around the walking course.  Some kids finish the day with three charms (15 laps), while others may finish with 5 charms.  The foot charm is a simple way to disguise fitness in Physical Education.  The true benefit from this unit is a healthier student!  Google "Action Based Learning" to find out more information on the benefits of fitness on academic achievement.

November:

Balls, Walls and RopesThrowing, catching, jump roping, balancing, hand-eye coordination, foot-eye coordination, foot speed, agility, plyometrics, juggling, cup stacking and the quarterback challenge all wrapped up into one unit.  In addition to these skills we have added the rock wall to incorporate more upper body strengthening exercises.  Students will be introduced to stations working on specific areas of activities.  We will also add volleyball, basketball, football and other traditional sport activities to develop better skills and proficiency.

December-

Fitnessgram Testing and Games-  Finishing up Fitnessgram Testing.  Will be playing some cooperative games and PINS AND RIMS!!!

Obstacle CourseA action packed unit full of surprises!  The gym is set up as a huge obstacle course.  Students will use every muscle in their bodies to crawl, climb, swing, jump, run and scoot.  Students may come along some surprises in the tunnel of terror!
