Our Amazing Teachers

Teri Hendrickson

“I grew up on a dairy farm, and, as the oldest of six children, I helped with the care of my younger siblings and eventually other children in our neighborhood. It was no surprise that I would find a career working with children.”

Teri has taught at C.C.S. since 1996. Teri has an Associates degree in Childcare and Development from Madison Area Technical College and has completed the Montessori Para-Professional course. She previously worked at Woodland Montessori, Preschool for the Arts, and the Mount Horeb Public Schools as a para-professional in the Early Learning Center. Her interests include reading and family activities such as biking and swimming. Teri also works at Little Norway in the summer months. Teri's three children are all C.C.S. alumni.

Mary McSherry

"It is a privilege to work with children, in tandem with their parents, during the absorbent mind period of a young child's life."

Mary began working at C.C.S. in 2001. Mary completed her Child Development Assistant Teacher credentials in spring 2006 and has also attended several University of Wisconsin - Platteville Early Childhood conferences. She attends art classes in the summer at Grandview and selects seminars throughout the year with an interest in themes of music, nature, yoga, and peace. She renewed her Heart Saver Infant and Child CPR certification in 2006. Before working at C.C.S., Mary received a degree from Madison Area Technical College and worked in the field of Printing and Electronic Publishing for several years and then out of a home office for her husband's home automation business. She enjoys family activities, walking, bicycling, gardening, reading, and music. Mary's two girls are both C.C.S. alumni.

Jackie Olson

"The philosophy of Montessori and my love of children keep me at C.C.S."

Jackie has been working with C.C.S. since 1997. Jackie graduated from Madison Area Technical College with a degree in Childcare Development. She is certified in CPR through the American Red Cross and attends many early childhood conferences. Prior to her work at C.C.S., she was a home daycare provider for five years. In her spare time, Jackie enjoys spending time with her family and friends, working in her garden, watching birds and taking long walks with her dogs.

Martha Pfaff

"Growing up in rural Wisconsin and attending one of the last one-room schools, the importance of family and community was instilled in me at a very early age. Day after day and year after year, I am still awarded that feeling as I am given the opportunity to work with wonderful children and families at C.C.S."

Martha has been at C.C.S. since 1985. She also has five years previous teaching experience in the pre-school area. Martha has a Bachelors of Science degree from the University of Wisconsin - Platteville in Elementary Education with a concentration in Early Childhood Education. Martha continues to attend various conferences and classes at UW - Platteville to maintain her DPI teaching license. In addition, Martha has completed the Montessori Para-Professional course, a Sign Language I course, and is also a certified language teacher in the Orton Gillingham Method of Phonetic Instruction. Her special interests in teaching include language, music, geography, and practical life. She also enjoys family activities, animals, traveling, music, reading, and gardening. Martha's three children are all C.C.S. alumni.

Lori Schereck

"I always knew I wanted to be a teacher. It's truly rewarding in the Montessori classroom the way the older children are so helpful to the younger ones, how a child's face lights up as he or she connect the sounds to make that first word, and how that third-year child comes full circle and blossoms."

Lori has been with C.C.S. since 1986. Lori completed her Montessori training at Montessori Education Centers Associated in Chicago in 1994 and holds an American Montessori Society Montessori teaching degree. Over the years she has attended many early childhood seminars as well as a Sign Language I class through the Mount Horeb Recreational Department, a Child Psychology course through Edgewood College, and a Family Daycare course at Madison Area Technical College. Lori is certified in CPR and First Aid through the American Red Cross. Her special classroom interests are all types of music, language activities and incorporating a little Spanish into the curriculum. She enjoys traveling, walking, singing, and spending time with her son, who is a C.C.S. alumnus.

Nora Warrington

"What keeps teaching fun is that no two days are the same. No matter how well-planned we may be, the children provide surprises to keep us on our toes."

Nora joined the C.C.S. staff full time in August 2010 after having subbed for the school for several years previous to that. Nora has a B.S. from UW-Madison in Preschool and Kindergarten Education. She has 28 years of teaching experience in a variety of settings, some of which include Preschool of the Arts in Madison, the Waisman Early Childhood Program in Madison and Pecatonica Preschool. Nora continues to attend classes and conferences to maintain her DPI teaching license. Some of her intersts include gardening, biking, travel, snowshoeing, skiing and scrapbooking. Nora and her husband have two children who are both C.C.S. alumni.

Our Dedicated Leader

Sally Flood

"As one of the elder siblings in a family of 10 children, it was important to learn independence and respect. I chose the Montessori approach when I began C.C.S. because I see children respected for who they are and I enjoy watching them blossom in this environment."

Sally co-founded C.C.S. and has been its director since 1976. She taught Montessori preschool and kindergarten-aged children from 1973 to 1994. She has an associate degree from the University of Cincinnati and a B.S. in Child and Family Studies from the University of Wisconsin. She received her Montessori training from A.E.R.C.O.-Ithaca. Sally holds a Masters in Social Work and has a small, private counseling practice in Madison working with children and families. She and her husband Dan also do joint marriage counseling. Sally is a certified language teacher in the Orton Gillingham Method of Instruction and is a member of the American Montessori Society (AMS). Her interests include traveling, cross country skiing, bicycling, gardening and nature studies. Sally and her husband have three children, all of whom are C.C.S alumni.
