Welcome to Honors College Preparatory Chemistry

I'm looking forward to working with you to learn about of the fascinating world of chemistry!

You'll need the following supplies for this class:

(1) Composition Book - This will serve as your chemistry journal - a place to keep the majority of work that we do in this class. It can have college rule or wide rule paper - or even grid lines... you choose. It must be a bound book (not spiral). Bring to class each day.

(2) Pen or Pencil to write with... It must produce dark enough lines to be legible. Hot pink and lime green generally don't work! Bring to class each day.

(3) Scientific Calculator. Your calculator needs to be capable of working with scientific notation (6.02 x 10²³ ). If it has an 'EE' or 'EXP' key it is OK. These calculators range from $6 to $15. If you have a graphing calculator it does have this capability. Bring it to class daily unless directed not to.

(4) $5 Lab Fee - This fee covers the consumables we use in lab. Every chemistry student pays the fee. Please pay your fee no later than Sept 4th, 2009. If the fee would cause you / your family financial hardship, please have your parents write me a note and include some contact information.

(5) Pocket folder - to hold those papers that do not end up in your composition book.

(6) Chemistry Textbook - This is a red book with "jars" of colored solutions on the cover. You can check it out from the library. Take this book home and leave it at home. If we need it in class, I'll provide advanced warning.
