What are Dolch Words? Dolch word lists are the 220 most common words found in children’s reading books. Dolch words provide an excellent base for reading at an early age because they cover over 50% of the vocabulary used in written English. These words are often called sight words because some of them can’t be sounded out, and need to be learned by sight. By the end of first grade your child must know 80%-100% of these 220 Dolch Words. Look at the files below for a complete list, flashcards, stories, etc. There is also a list of 150 phrases using the Dolch words.
