Second Nine Weeks Standards Second Nine Week's Standards

Dear Families,

            As you know, we are beginning our second nine weeks of school.  Therefore, I would like to share with you the standards and benchmarks that your child is responsible for.  Keep this list as a tool to see that your child is meeting all grade level expectations. 

 

Math

Compare and order numbers to 50 (more and less than)

Standard and non-standard measurement

Measurement by using iterations of a unit

Compare/order objects by length, weight, capacity

Understand the need for uniform measurement

Count by 2’s to 50

Count by 5’s to 50

County by 10’s to 100

Know the names of different types of money (penny, nickel, dime, quarter, half dollar, and dollar)

Know the value of the coins

Add facts to 10

Subtract facts to 10

Model addition/subtraction situations using manipulatives, pictures, etc.

Apply addition/subtraction as inverse operations

Represent two digits numbers in terms of ones and tens

Write number sentences

Record data with pictures

Describe data (more, less, how many more than)

Tell time to the hour

Identify even and odd numbers to 20

Pose and solve simple story problems using concrete objects

Understand and read a simple graph

 

Reading

Use beginning letters and patterns as cues for decoding (ex. using the word families)

Identify and classify common words into basic categories

Use strategies such as retelling, sequencing, recalling details, and rereading to comprehend

Know the main idea of a story

Select materials to read for pleasure

Identify the characters of a story

Know 80% - 100% of Primer words

Read a pre primer passage independently

Discuss familiar and challenging vocabulary

Use of context cues

Blend four phonemes to form words

Change beginning or endings to form a new word

Locate the Table of Contents

Distinguish informational text from entertaining text

Segment single syllable words into individual phonemes

 

 

Writing

Write numbers, uppercase, and lowercase letters using left to right sequence, correct alignment and formation

Appropriate spacing between letters, words, and sentences

Pre-write by generating ideas from multiple sources (brainstorming, webbing, drawing, and group discussions)

Pre-write organizing ideas using simple webs, maps or lists

Correct subject and verb agreement in simple sentences

Edit and correct for end punctuations (periods)

Use inventive spelling (spell word wall words and spelling patterns we’ve learned correctly)

Use a complete sentence when writing

Participate in recording information from informational/expository test (lists, graphs, tables, or maps)

Sequence a paragraph/story into beginning, middle, and end

Produce, illustrate, and share a variety of compositions

Stay on topic when given writing prompt

Write simple directions to familiar locations using “left and right” and create a map that matches the directions.

 

Listening and Speaking

Follow two-step oral directions

Follow conversation strategies (raising hand to speak, facing the speaker, waiting quietly to speak)

Speaks clearly and with appropriate volume

 

Social Studies

Use simple maps and globes (types of maps, using maps to help us and get to a destination)

Know terms used to describe distance (feet, miles)

Understand that a map represents a real place

Know the four cardinal directions (North, South, East, and West)

Understand the system of supply and demand (markets)

Understand the basic concepts of scarcity (markets)

Understand the difference between goods and services

Understand the cost and benefit (giving up something to get something)

Understand that people exchange goods and services for payment

 

Science

Use the five senses as tools to make observations

Keep records as appropriate

Ask “How do you know?” questions
