Welcome to the Counselor's Corner! My name is Cyndi Barnett and I am the counselor here at Clear Fork Elementary. This is my fifth year at Clear Fork. I graduated with a Master of Education in Counseling and Guidance from Texas State University. Before coming to Clear Fork, I taught for 14 years. I earned my Bachelor's in Home Economics at Southwest Texas and then went on to get certified in all subjects grades 1-8 and Special Education grades K-12. I love working with the students and staff to make Clear Fork the best Elementary in Texas. My job as a counselor includes the following duties: Guidance Curriculum Students will participate in monthly guidance lessons. The purpose of the guidance curriculum is to provide all students the knowledge and assistance in acquiring life skills. The program will consist of structured developmental experiences. Topics include: Character Education, Self-knowledge & Acceptance, Communication Skills, Responsible Behavior, Conflict Resolution, Motivation to Achieve, Goal Setting, and Career Planning. Responsive Services The purpose is to meet the immediate needs and concerns of students. The counselor assists students by providing individual, group and crisis counseling. The counselor also provides referrals to outside agencies and counselors as needed. If you need additional help finding resources you can click on the Resource tab or feel free to email or call me. Individual Counseling The purpose of individual counseling is to intervene on behalf of those students who have immediate concerns or problems. Students are seen by the counselor individually. If the counselor feels that the student would benefit from weekly counseling sessions, a consent form will be sent to the parents or can be downloaded by clicking on the Resources tab. Group Counseling The purpose of group counseling is to work on issues and problems in a group setting with students who have similar problems. Examples include: Divorce, Social Skills, Anger Management, and Grief. Two outside agencies facilitate groups at Clear Fork and focus on children who are not being successful at school. Groups typically meet 6 to 8 times. If the counselor feels that a student would benefit from group counseling, a consent form will be sent to the parents or you may call or email me. Individual Planning The purpose is to help all students plan, monitor, and manage their own learning, personal goals and career development. As a district, we are committed to helping each child reach his or her potential and become productive members of society. Therefore, the counselor will schedule a meeting with the parents of every fifth grader to help students and families prepare for the future. Career Awareness activities are also done with all grades to encourage students to make good choices and decisions as they learn and grow. If I can can be of any help to you and your family, please contact me at (512) 398-0537 or cyndi.barnett@lockhart.txed.net.
