Many opportunities for prayer and faith formation exist in the fourth grade classroom and at Resurrection Catholic School.
Religion class is held daily. Each fourth grade lesson begins with the praying of one decade of the Rosary for the seminarians of the Diocese of Harrisburg and for any intentions the students have posted on the prayer intention wall.
Each fourth grade student is presented with a Bible of their own at the beginning of the school year. This is used in their instruction during the year. It is passed on each new school year with the student to their next grade for their continued use and is taken home at the completion of their eighth grade year.
Various types of prayers are taught and/or recited in the fourth grade classroom as part of the religion curriculum. Grace before meals is prayed in the classroom daily. Informal prayer services throughout the year are held as well.
Each day begins with prayer as a school community. Individual classes take turns leading the morning prayers and the Pledge of Allegiance. Parents are always welcome to join us in the gymnasium for morning prayer.
The Act of Contrition is recited as a school community at the end of each school day.
Mass is held weekly and on Holy Days of Obligation. Classes rotate preparing the liturgy. This includes the readings for the Mass, the Offertory procession, singing in the choir, and assisting as altar servers. All are invited to worship with us each week. The Primary building's liturgies take place at 9:00 a.m. every Tuesday. The Elementary building celebrates their liturgies at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesdays.
The seasons of Lent and Advent are celebrated in a special way each year. Bulletin boards in each classroom display the school wide theme decided upon each Advent and Lenten season. Activities and lessons are planned around these themes.
The Sacrament of Reconciliation takes place several times during the school year. Sacrament preparation takes place in second grade for Reconciliation and Holy Communion and in eighth grade for Confirmation.
Every class at Resurrection Catholic school participates in a class service project each year. In addition, the entire school supports the American Cancer Society's Relay For Life and donates to the Holy Childhood Association.
Here is a special prayer for my students:
I SAID A PRAYER FOR YOU TODAY
I said a prayer for you today And know God must have heard.
I felt the answer in my heart Although He spoke no word.
I didn't ask for wealth or fame, I knew you wouldn't mind,
I asked Him to send treasures Of a far more lasting kind.
I asked that He'd be near you At the start of each new day
To grant you health and blessings And friends to share the way.
I asked for happiness for you In all things great and small,
But it was for His loving care I prayed the most of all.
