Homework Policy 5th Grade Math Brenda Fowler Homework will be defined as any school work completed at home or any work assigned to do at home. Assignments will be made, explained, and usually started during classroom time. Assignments will be meaningful rather than lengthy, giving students enough practice to assure understanding of the skill. All assignments must be completed to receive a passing grade for the course. A completed assignment consists in showing HOW the problem is worked out. An assignment turned in without workouts will result in a zero. Any assignments not completed at the time the assignment is made will be given a zero. You will be assigned Detention Hall for that recess peeriod to complete the assignments for full credit. You will still need to complete the assignment so the skill can be practiced for mastery. If the assignment is completed the next day then the highest grade you can receive is a 75. Parents will be informed through the student planner, the 15day report, teacher note, or call and report cards of any assignments that have not been completed. School work completed at home and returned to school teaches responsibility. Students who consistently turn in late papers are developing a poor work ethic. All assignments must be neat, and all numbers should be clear and easy to read. Failure to do this could result in having to redo the assignment. In the case of a test, the answer will be counted wrong if a number is too difficult to read. The math notebook includes the following: vocabulary, completed homework, quiz and test grades. Daily work will count 1/3 of the grade. Quiz grades will count 1/3 and test grades will count 1/3 of the grade. Students will bring home a study sheet before every test. The study sheet will list the types of problems on the test. Parents are asked to sign the study sheet and the student will return it on test day.
