Mr. Waddell - PE

Mr. Waddell K-8 Physical Education

Hello,

My name is Matt Waddell and I am the physical education teacher at Hanley International Academy. This is my 4th year here at Hanley, and I am proud to be part of such a wonderful family. I have really enjoyed being a part of molding our youth into outstanding citizens of the future. Along with teaching I have also been the basketball coach for our student athletes. Through sports I believe I have impacted our children on a whole other level. I have the unique situation of experience our students in a different setting, which enables me to connect with them in very important real life situations.

In December of 2004 I graduated from Eastern Michigan University with a bachelor’s degree in education. While attending school I also started a family. I now have three beautiful boys that are a huge part of my everyday life. I therefore have the perspective of, not only a teacher, but also a parent. Being a parent has been a great help when it comes to relating to the students. I also now attend graduate school at Wayne State University, and plan to obtain a master’s degree in May of 2010.

When I have spare time I enjoy playing, and coaching sports. The sports I have coached include baseball, basketball, and roller hockey. I have played such sports as, baseball, softball, and basketball. I also enjoy being with my children when I am not with Hanley. Some other hobbies of mine are listening to music, watching sports, and spending time with my very close extended family. One of my favorite things to do is go to my father’s house on the lake with my family.

Mr. Stabnick K-8 Health Education

Mr. Stabnick received a Bachelor of Science degree from Oakland University in 1993 and worked for Comerica Bank in Branch Management for 6 years before leaving to work for EXTRA Credit Union for a year. After that, he worked as a Purchasing Manager for an automotive mold & engineering company until 2002, when he decided to go back to school to become a physical and health education teacher. He received his Master of Arts in Teaching from Wayne State University in Detroit in May, 2006 and went to work as a PE/Health teacher at Bradford Academy in Southfield, Michigan. This is his 4th year of teaching. Mr. Stabnick has coached youth baseball & soccer, and is a head coach of his son’s ice hockey team. He plays ice hockey and has been playing since he was 5 years old. As a youth ice hockey player, he was a goal scorer! He once scored 77 goals in a 30 game season! In 1998, his Senior Hockey team, The Crushers, won a State Championship! His favorite team is the Detroit Red Wings! His other hobbies are playing with his two children, yard-work, interior/exterior decorating/landscaping, art, inline skating, P90X body training, step-aerobics, Pilates, circuit training, mountain biking and adventure racing. He also likes to play Texas Hold ‘Em poker for fun and he really enjoys the family board game Sequence.

Teaching has always been a passion and a dream of his. He finally realized that dream in May of 2006, when he graduated, then in August of 2006, when he started working for the Romine Group and Bradford Academy. Mr. Stabnick chose the fields of physical education and health education because he believes our children are this country’s most beloved assets. They are the key to future generations leading positive, healthy lives.

His main goal as a K-8 health teacher is to provide all students with a quality health education program that promotes students to feel healthy, safe, be confident, and successful and learn to live long, healthy lives. Mr. Stabnick intends to engage all students in meaningful experiences that promote learners to be independent and value a healthy, active lifestyle for a lifetime.

In health, students will be taught class rules, Nutrition & Physical Activity, Alcohol, Tobacco, and Other Drugs, Safety, Social & Emotional Health, Personal Health & Wellness, HIV Prevention (grades 4-6), Growth & Development (grades 4-6), and HIV & STI Prevention along with Sexuality Education (grades 7-8) from the Michigan Model for Health Education.

To see what going on in PE and in health, please visit this website frequently for updates.

If anyone has any concerns or comments, please feel free to contact Mr. Stabnick by e-mail. This is the best way to get a quick response from him.

Mr. Stabnick looks forward to teaching your children and he is proud to be a part of the Hanley staff.

Lastly, he would like to leave you with his physical education motto and that is…”You’re not fully educated until you’re physically educated!”
