Mr. Waddell - Grades K-2 & Middle School Physical Education Hello, My name is Matt Waddell and I am the physical education teacher at Hanley International Academy. This is my 6th year here at Hanley, and I am proud to be part of such a wonderful family. I have really enjoyed being a part of molding our youth into outstanding citizens of the future. Along with teaching I have also been the basketball coach for our student athletes. Through sports I believe I have impacted our children on a whole other level. I have the unique situation of experience our students in a different setting, which enables me to connect with them in very important real life situations. In December of 2004 I graduated from Eastern Michigan University with a bachelor’s degree in education. While attending school I also started a family. I now have three beautiful boys that are a huge part of my everyday life. I therefore have the perspective of, not only a teacher, but also a parent. Being a parent has been a great help when it comes to relating to the students. I also now attend graduate school at Wayne State University, and plan to obtain a master’s degree in May of 2010. When I have spare time I enjoy playing, and coaching sports. The sports I have coached include baseball, basketball, and roller hockey. I have played such sports as, baseball, softball, and basketball. I also enjoy being with my children when I am not with Hanley. Some other hobbies of mine are listening to music, watching sports, and spending time with my very close extended family. One of my favorite things to do is go to my father’s house on the lake with my family. Mr. Stabnick - Grades 3-5 Physical Education & Grades 3-8 Health Education Hi There! My name is Mr. Stabnick and I received a Bachelor of Science degree from Oakland University in 1993 and worked for Comerica Bank in Branch Management for 6 years before leaving to work for EXTRA Credit Union for a year. After that, I worked as a Purchasing Manager for an automotive mold & engineering company until 2002, when I had a revelation and decided to go back to school to become a physical and health education teacher. I received my Master of Arts in Teaching from Wayne State University in Detroit in May, 2006 and went to work as a PE/Health teacher at Bradford Academy in Southfield, Michigan. This is my 6th year of teaching. I have coached youth baseball & soccer, and was a head coach of my son’s ice hockey team for four years. I am also the Assistant Coach of the Hanley girls volleyball team, and Head Coach of the cross-country team! I also have the privilege to be one of the Athletic Director's this year as well! I play ice hockey and have been playing since I was 5 years old. As a youth ice hockey player, I was a goal scorer! I once scored 77 goals in a 30 game season! In 1998, my Senior Hockey team, The Crushers, won a State Championship! My favorite sports team is the Detroit Red Wings! My other hobbies are being active with my two children Austin and Madison, yard-work, interior/exterior decorating/landscaping, art, inline skating, P90X body training, circuit training, and biking. I also like to have "family game nights" and I really enjoy the family board game Sequence and Horse Race. We enjoy our summers by spending a great deal of time at our family cottage in Port Austin, Michigan (Tip of the Thumb!) on Lake Huron. Teaching has always been a passion and a dream of mine. I finally realized that dream in May of 2006, when I graduated, then in August of 2006, when I started working for the Romine Group and Bradford Academy. I chose the fields of physical education and health education because I believe our children are this country’s most beloved assets. They are the key to future generations leading positive, healthy lives. My main goal as a physical education and health teacher is to provide all students with a quality health education program that promotes students to feel healthy, safe, be confident, and successful and learn to live long, healthy lives. I intend to engage all students in meaningful experiences that promote learners to be independent and value a healthy, active lifestyle for a lifetime. My two main mottos for physical education and health are... "You're not fully educated until you're physically educated" and at Hanley "No child will be left on their behind!" To see what's happening in PE and in health, please visit this website frequently for updates. If anyone has any concerns or comments, please feel free to contact me by e-mail. This is the best way to get a quick response from him. I look forward to teaching your children and I am proud to be a part of the Hanley staff.
