Technology Rules Technology

The Nitty Gritty for Students

It is important to remember the most safe and effective ways to use the power of technology. We are very fortunate to have wireless carts to use in our room, and because of this opportunity to make learning both fun and geared toward real-world tasks, it is important we learn and constantly review the best ways to use the computers.

  • Liquids, including your permissible water bottles, may not be ANYWHERE near the laptops. They should be closed securely in your backpack.
  • Students should use the same laptop each day, and save work frequently to your travel drive. Work should NEVER be saved on the desktop.
  • When moving or carrying the laptop, please close the monitor and carry it with two hands. You should never pick up the laptop by the screen or carry it with one hand.
  • When finished using a program, please "Apple Q," which means to push the Apple and Q key at the same time. This quits the program, instead of just closing the window.
  • Students must have teacher permission before leaving the classroom.
  • Students may NOT surf the web or check Pinnacle unless asked to do so by the teacher.
  • Before printing any documents, students should get the permission of the teacher.

Failure to follow the above rules (or any others outlined by the teacher) will result in laptop use being revoked. These are expensive machines and are only for use by students who can use them appropriately and maturely. To break it down, I will not tolerate ANY KIND of misuse of the laptop. Period.

If you still have questions about what is/is not acceptable in terms of technology use, please refer to Broward County's Acceptable Use Policy #5306. Remember that your use and participation on our blogs, web sites, message boards, etc. are still a part of Broward County Schools, although you may be 'technically' participating from home. School-appropriate language is not expected--it's required.

A very special thanks to Christina Lambard, a generous fellow educator  who gave
me permission to use her wording for this page and the 'blog permission form.'
