Early College Start - ACC Early College Start - ACC

The Early College Start program offers high school juniors and seniors the opportunity to start earning college credit before graduating from high school. Austin Community College enrolls eligible high school students through the Early College Start program, allowing them to take up to two college courses per semester while in high school.  These courses may count as either college credit or as duel credit (high school & college credit at the same time).  Students are allowed to register for two classes per semester after completion of the sophomore year. 


Steps for enrolling in the Early College Start program

 

New ECS Students:

 

1)  Complete the ACC Admission Application online at www.austincc.edu/apply. Print, complete, and keep the Residency Form (to be handed in during ACC advising session)

 

2)  Complete ACC 101 at www.austincc.edu/acc101 and print and keep the ACC 101 checklist page to bring to advising.

 

3)  Visit the Student Advisor to determine your “college-readiness status”

Students are exempt from testing if they meet one of the following criteria:

·        TAKS: A minimum TAKS score of 2200 on math, 2200 on ELA, AND a writing score of 3 or higher.

·        ACT scores: a composite score of 23 or above AND a minimum of 19 on both the English and mathematics subtests.  (scores valid for 5 years) 

·        SAT scores: a total score of 1070 or above AND a minimum of 500 on both the verbal and mathematics sections.  (scores valid for 5 years) 

If you are not exempt you must take an ACC assessment test

4)  Meet with the Student Advisor to select courses and complete the ECS form. 

 

5)  Order a high school transcript.  Allow 1 working day to process your transcript.  DO NOT have it mailed to ACC - pick up the transcript and take it to your ACC Advising appointment.

 

6)  Meet with and submit all paperwork to an ACC Advisor or ECS specialist.

 

ACC advising session at NYOS is November 20th during 2nd period, or make an appointment for advising at any ACC campus.                                                Paperwork required for ACC Advising Session:

?  ACC Residency Form*

Early College Start form with all required signatures

Official High School Transcript

?  Proof of Orientation (ACC 101 checklist)*

?  Test scores:  ASSET, THEA, TAKS, SAT or ACT score results* 

*if not already on file with ACC

7)  Register for classes by telephone or on the web AND verify your schedule.  Summer registration is in early May; Fall registration is in mid-July; Spring registration is in late fall.

 

PLEASE NOTE:    The ACC Counselor does not register you for your classes.

         The Student Advisor does not register you for your classes.


Steps for enrolling in the Early College Start program

Returning Students:

1.  Meet with Student Advisor each semester

2.  Complete new Early College Start (ECS) form with required signatures

3.  Meet with ACC adademic advisor or ESC Specialist

4.  Submit Early College Start form to ACC Admissions Office or ECS Specialist

5.  Register for classes by phone or on the web


REMEMBER!!!!!!

You must take your official ACC transcript to Ms. Stapleton as soon as your ACC grade has posted!
