Fri. Oct. 9

GAINS (Global Aid Network)

COST: Free .. We’re giving of our time and gifts

We are needed for the Global Aid Network Warehouse Fall Work Project! Missions and shipments of compassionate aid are planned in coming months to countries in Africa, Central Asia, the Middle East, the former Soviet Union, and others around the world.

·        We will have the opportunity to work with items like: CarePacks of school supplies, clothing, gospel bracelets, hygiene kits, shoes, Teddy bears, vegetable seeds, or other types of aid.

·        Gains also serves lunches on a donation basis.

·        Both 5 grade classes will be joining us for this mission-minded day.

Railroad Museum of Pa

Workin’ on the Railroad “B” (Grades 2-4/Ages 7-10)

·        Through hands-on interaction and role-play, students will explore continuity and change over time, as well as conflict and cooperation among social groups. Students sort mail in the Railway Post Office, serve as Pullman porters, brake and couple freight cars and send and receive telegraph messages and train orders.

 

Amish Village

COST: $3.75 (per student) / $7.75 (Adults)

·        Village Part: House Tour 25 minutes / Outside self-guided approx. 1 hour

·        Non-covered picnic facilities

Daniel Boone Homestead

COST (House Tour w/1 Hands On): $4.50

House Tour
The guided house tour lasts approximately 45 minutes and highlights rural life in 18th century Pennsylvania. The lifestyle of the Boones is discussed in detail. A history of the Oley Valley of eastern Berks County is also provided. Both English and German traditions are discussed during the tour.

    For 2009 -- The IMAX will be showing Under the Sea 3D. We'll be doing the Whitaker Center following the tour of the Capitol.

    Pennsylvania's Capitol Building, a treasure trove of Pennsylvania history.

    Daniel Boone Homestead
    The Daniel Boone Homestead, located near Reading, Pennsylvania, is a state historic site which preserves a number of historic structures. The Homestead offers many historic programs and exhibits, preserves 579 acres of open space, and provides passive recreational areas.

    Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania
    Their mission is to collect, interpret and preserve significant objects related to Pennsylvania’s railroading history and to educate the public about that history through exhibits,special events, research and other programs.
