Homework Policy
Completing homework successfully is one of the most important skills children can learn. Homework gives students a chance to practice skills and review ideas they learned in class. It also helps foster independent work habits.
Grading
I start all of my students with a homework grade of 100% (per subject) at the beginning of each marking period. I subtract 5 points from the grade each time they do not have their homework. I accept two late assignments during a grading period without subtracting the 5 points dependent on homework being handed in. Homework that is more then one week late will not be accepted. You are welcome to call me anytime for clarification of an assignment … Really! I mean it!
Making Up Work
I use a canvas bag that has my name on it. I pack it with the child’s assignments and books. You may pick up missed work any time after school. I can also send work home via a family member or a friend. When your child recovers and/or returns to school send the tote with the makeup work with him/her.
Homeworkopoly
Introduction
As a reward for doing nightly homework assignments we will be playing Homeworkopoly on Fridays. Homeworkopoly is a fun way to encourage children to do their homework! It works a lot like regular monopoly.
To be eligible to play Homeworkopoly, students must turn in their homework on time every day during the week. Students must also have their agendas signed nightly by a parent or guardian.
How to Play
All students begin at “GO”. Each student moves around the board and will land on various ‘SPECIAL SPACES” and “STREET SPOTS” (sorry, there is no ‘purchasing’ of property). “STREET SPOTS” relate to our curriculum in some manner. A question (usually from an upcoming test) will be asked. However, answers do not have to be correct, the purpose is simply to review for upcoming tests). If a student does not have their homework finished, they do not get his or her chance to shake the die and move for the week (with exceptions, of course).
