The Race for the Cure By Jack H. & Nic S. We ran the Race for the Cure on October 5,2008. The Race for the Cure is a race to help people find a cure for breast cancer. It's sad that people have breast cancer and that's why we run the race every year. The race was in downtown Albany at the Empire State Plaza. We ran it because we wanted to help find a cure, workout, and run just for fun. Our favorite part of the race was going though the shoot on the 3rd mile. That was really the most fun part because we both set our records coming down the shoot in 26 minutes. We both ran together too! Our opinions on the race was that it was pretty hard but fun. Our P.E teachers Coach Dedrick, Coach Hammond, and Coach Dobin helped us get prepared for the race by going to running club every Monday, Wednsday, and Friday. Veteran's Day By Katie H. & Michael W. The Veteran's Day assembly was on November 10, 2008 at Green Meadow School in the gym.We celebrated veteran's day by honoring the people who have served in the armed forces. The reason why we had the assembly was so we can remember the people who protect us. We wrote essays for homework and the teachers picked two kids to read them at the assembly. The two kids were Chase and J.J. There were around 600 people there. Katie's favorite part was seeing all of the soldiers and Micheal's favorite part was when he walked down the isle with his Papa. The assembly was exciting for Katie because she could sing all of the songs and Micheal was interested by seeing all of the soldiers. Australia By Lauren K. & Alex B. It all started early October. This is where the fun began. The third grade classes started studing the country of Australia. We studed Australia to learn about the culture, other countries, and to compare life in the United States and Australia. We learned about Aboriganies, people,Ayers Rock, land markes, Character Education By Tyler N. & JJ Character Ed is to give awards to kids who show respect to others. They treat others the way they would like to be treated. You should show respect every day all the time everywhere. We do character Ed at the end of each month and a good handful of kids get awards each assembly. They give awards at each assembly to give recognition to the kids that where good role -models. We get the awards because we were caring, and respectful to others.J.J. and Tyler like going up and showing their awards together. Math Blast Corbin L. & Cambry A. We love math blast! This is how we do it! We first get together with the whole third grade. Next, we line up and get partners. Then Mr.Otto shows us a flashcard. Whoever gets the answer right is still in the game and the other kid sits down. There is a challenge between the final two kids. The winner goes to the wall of fame and gets a cerificate. Every Friday we do it. We are on multipication. Cambry's favorite part is when I go to the back of the line so she can answer another question. Corbin's favorite part is when he went to the final two. Compass Rose By Chris O. & Lilly H. On Tuesday Novemeber 30,2008 we went to Mrs.Ford's classroom to make a Compass Rose out of sweets. First we would have to get a plate and write the directions north, south east and west. Second, we got one graham cracker and spread frosting on it. Next we got pretzels to use as the cardinal directions. After that, we got 1 twizzler and tore it into 4 pieces. Then we put the twizzlers inbetween the pretzels to show the intermediate directions. Finally we got to eat it. We loved to eat it! The Apple Race By Ethan B. & Stephen B. The Apple Race takes place on the Green Meadow playground.October 28, 2008 was when the Apple Race took place. Kids would pratice running in gym before the race. The Apple Race is not about winning, its about having fun and learning sportmenship. Jack Hernandez came in first place, Corbin came in second and Shane came in third for the the boys. For the girls, Kathleen came in first, Nia came in second and Alissa came in third. Stephen's favorite part of the race was all of the Green Meadow kids get an apple at the end of the race. Ethan's favorite part is when Jack crossed the finish line. I was proud of him! Math By Jason F. & Alyssa C. The third grade is doing an excellent job in math. Let us tell you about our math units. We do math after ELA everyday. We have started this since September 4,2008. We learn math to get educated in math. We've learned place values, how to compare, order and round whole numbers. We added and subtracted whole numbers. We graphed and analyzed data. We also learned multipication concepts, division facts and patterns. Jason says,"my favorite part about math is multipication and division because it is easy for me and is fun." Alyssa says,"my favorite part about math is multipication because I'm great at it and I like challenging myself." Our opinion is, we both like it very much! Kids need to learn a lot of math because when we are working adults we'll need to know how to count money and other things. Tim C. & Grant P. Halloween Parade By Chase A. & Alex R. On October 31, 2008 at Green Medow Elementary we had a Halloween parade! At first the day starts normal then it gets wacky! First we go to lunch. At lunch if we wanted to we could get our faces painted. The whole school staff dressed up. Everyone got to celebrate HALLOWEEN! The whole school had a long parade around the school. It was tons of fun. Friendship By Emily M. In third grade we learn a lot about friendship. We make a lot of friends when we work together in reading and answering questions. We help each other when
