Course Description: In this course, we will study the beliefs and traditions of many of the major religions of the world. By evaluating each religion’s core beliefs, rituals, sacred texts, moral codes, and spirituality, the student will be able to compare and contrast each religion to the Catholic faith. We will begin our survey with a look at the three major monotheistic religions: Christianity, Judaism, and Islam. We will then turn our attention to Hinduism and Buddhism, and briefly look at Chinese and Japanese religions. We will end the course by studying New Religious traditions. Course Objectives: - To gain insight, understanding, and tolerance of the faith traditions of the human family
- To recognize the common threads among faith traditions, and consequently view all people as part of the same human family
