The most important classroom news is concerning the Scholastic.com website.  This website will enable you to better level your books.  Remember to press book wizard and follow the prompts.  The following chart may be useful in determining levels:

Grade 5   5.3   level T

This is a very exciting and academically rich year ahead of us.  This year I am working collaboratively with Mrs. Mallon and Mrs. Walsh.  We will continue to follow the Reading and Writing Workshop model from Teachers College.  Our goal is to make sure your child has a productive and successful year.  Please do not hesitate to email us at school. 

 In addition, this year I will be working very closely with Mrs. Cowen-Smith to best meet your child's needs. We are the 7th & 8th grade special education team working in collaboration with the middle school teachers. 

******  This month our unit of study in Nonfiction Texts.  Students are immersed in nonfiction expository and  narrative nonfiction.  Our writing unit is exciting.  Students will be creating their own non fiction all about books.  *****
