Hearst's Jog-a-thon was a huge success! Charger's kicker, Nick Novak, kicked-off the event. Everyone jogged the track to raise funds for our PTA - which supports students and teachers in the classroom. Thank you to everyone who helped! February in the Fifth Grade Students in Rm.11 are outlining and writing Research Reports! By generating key questions on a topic, students can research facts and information to develop paragraphs. Fifth graders are working on their Thesis Statements to support throughout the text. We're using the Computer Lab for research and typing. Also, students will be presenting PowerPoint Presentations on their reports. Reading every day during school and at home is really starting to show results. Student mid-year Reading Tests are looking terrific! Our fifth graders will be academically strong and ready for middle school. :) In Math, we using Algebra to evaluate expressions and find the value of unknown variables. Next, Integers! Keep up the nightly homework! Physical Science is underway. Students are mixing solids and liquids to create chemical reactions! Using atom models, we are exploring Chemical Equations to show how atoms reform to create new substances. Next - the Periodic Table of Elements! Don't forget to wear your goggles while experimenting! In Social Studies, students are discovering the cultural differences between European Settlers and Native Americans in the New World. Mrs. Iannuzzi and Mrs. Peelle encourage our students to reflect and share their ideas about what life was like back in America's history.
February 13-16 are all minimum days for students. Class will be dismissed at 12:30 pm each day. Teachers will be using this time for planning purposes. Thank you!  President's Day Weekend Fri., Feb.17 and Mon.; Feb.20 (no school)  Spring Break April 2-6 5th Graders do Spelling On-line! Go to SpellingCity and practice your current spelling list with games and activities. We will take our spelling tests every Friday on-line in the Computer Lab.
