Spelling

We begin each week in Spelling by taking a pre-test. This worksheet is self-graded by the student and then placed into their homework folder to use as a study guide. Students also glue the week's words into their planner. I encourage students to study their words each night. On Tuesday, we sort and use our words in sentences. We have a trial test on Wednesday. The assignment for Wednesday will be to get the trial test signed and write off the ones you missed into sailboats (see below). On Thursday, we proofread and edit a selection, respond to a writing prompt, and determine the correct spelling of our words. On Friday, the students who did not make a 100% on their trial test must retake the test. I record the higher of the two grades. Extra credit is usually not given in Spelling. When determining six weeks averages I drop the lowest daily grade. No test grades are ever dropped. Example of writing words into sailboats: f fo fou four fourt fourth
