These terms are essential for students to successfully understand directions and assessments in all academic subjects.  These words appear in many standardized test questions. We will be learning the meaning and usage of each of these words throughout the year and would like to encourage you to review them with your child.
 
Below is each word and it's simple meaning.
 
1.  trace - follow the path; list in steps
2.  analyze - break apart
3.  infer - read between the lines
4.  evaluate - judge
5.  formulate - create
6.  describe - tell all about
7.  support - back up with details
8.  explain - show me; tell the steps
9.  summarize - tell in a nutshell; tell the main idea
10.  compare - tell all of the ways things are alike
11.  contrast - tell all of the ways things are different
12.  predict - make an educated guess
