About PTO
WHAT IS PTO ALL ABOUT ANYWAY? What is PTO? PTO is short for the Norway Parent Teacher Organization. Why does it exist? The PTO works to support the staff and students of Norway Elementary by providing funding for projects, events, and speakers which would not otherwise be available to staff and students. The PTO is able to express appreciation to our teachers and staff of Norway Elementary by sponsoring events in their honor. Who is involved in the PTO? Any parents/guardians with students attending Norway Elementary, and teachers and staff at Norway Elementary. What things has the PTO done, or what will they do in the in the future? - Gives $100 to each teacher to spend for their classroom each year.
- PTO allots $6.00 per students to assist all children in attending field trips.
- Compiles a student directory, which is distributed to all families.
- Provides the teachers with a database of parents willing to volunteer in classrooms.
- Purchased 10 notebook computers for the school, with a commitment to purchase additional notebook computers if well received.
- Provides for various speakers and assemblies throughout the year, including drug awareness and character counts.
- Sponsors a Peregrine Falcon at the Raptor Center allowing the Raptor Center to come to Norway to show the students their amazing birds.
- Past projects include the playground equipment, guided reading books and carts, and financial support of library, music, and physical education needs.
When are the meetings, and do I have to attend regularly? Meetings are conducted the second Monday of each month, except December, at 6:30 p.m. Locations are listed on this website and are announced in the Friday Notes sent home with your child each Friday. Any parent involvement is appreciated! If you are unable to attend all of the meetings - just come to the ones that work with your schedule! Remember - babysitting is provided for free! There is no need to "sign up", just attend when you can. Why should I attend PTO Meetings? Attending PTO meetings helps you to be part of your child's education. Information provided at the meetings helps you to know what is going on at your child's school and gives opportunities for you to be involved in the PTO events that your child enjoys. As you can see by the above list, the school is appreciative of the financial support the PTO provides for the "extras" that help to make school even more enjoyable for our children. Even if you cannot attend the meetings, your involvement in the activities and fundraising events helps the PTO with our mission of supporting the staff and students by providing funding for projects, events and speakers which would otherwise not be available to them. THANK YOU!
