Sight Word Lists As children begin to read more and more, they need to be able to automatically read certain words. It is important to be able to read the word lists presented here quickly with few or no errors. When a child can read these words correctly, they can spend time decoding or thinking about other words in context that might stump them. They can use other strategies to figure out words and their meanings. If you choose to practice any of the Sight Word Lists with your child, we suggest starting at List 1 and practicing it nightly one or two times. You can download for practice any of the word list files at the bottom of this page. We are not in a race, we will all learn many of these words this year. Here are a some ways you can support your child in practicing the lists: -support by pointing to the word, saying it and then asking your child to do the same all the way down the list -spell each word first and then name the word, working down the list -make flash cards (3 or 4 from the list and add more as they master)
