Absenteeism: In the event that your child will be absent from school for any reason, please call the school office 586-5200 by 9:00am. Upon return to school, a written excuse is required by New York State. If your child will be late to school, please call the office 586-5200 by 9:00am. An adult must accompany the child into school, sign-in the child and a note must be sent with the child to the classroom teacher. Allergies: If your child has an allergy which requires medical attention, please inform both the school nurse and the classroom teacher before the first day of school. Birthdays: Birthdays are very important to us in KS! We will celebrate your child's birthday as close to the date as possible. For Summer Birthdays, it is best for our classroom routine to celebrate during the month of the child's half-birthday. If you choose, you may wait until the end of the year but our schedule is very full during June and it may be difficult to find an available day. (Birthday celebrations at St. Louis School no longer include an edible treat, however, you may bring "party favors" or "goodies" for your child to give to give to the KS Kids.) I will leave this decision up to you and your child. The Birthday Child will be given a crown and badge to wear for the day. The KS Family will make a Birthday Book for the Birthday Child. Also on the birthday celebration day, a special person (parent/parents, grandparent) is invited into the classroom at 10am or 11:05am. The special person and Birthday Child choose a book from home to read to the class. The birthday child chooses three prizes from the Prize Jug and three books from the Birthday Book Basket. We will sing a Birthday Prayer for the child and the Birthday Song! These activities will usually take twenty minutes. Buddies: We participate in a Buddy Program with the upper grades. Our Buddies are Mrs. Conlogue's Sixth Graders! We will get together with them during the year to work on special projects, play games, create art activities and learn from each other. C.A.S.E. Training (Creating and Maintaining a Safe Environment) Before you may come into the classroom as a volunteer or participate with Field Trips, the Catholic Schools in the Diocese of Rochester require you to attend a C.A.S.E Training course. The course is offered at schools and churches throughout the Diocese of Rochester, are listed in bulletins and on St. Louis School's Website, are about two hours in length, and need only to be attended once during your child's Catholic School career! After you attend a training course, you will submit your certificate to the Main Office and a Safe Environment badge will be made for you. Celebrations: We will have several classroom celebrations throughout the year. Sign-up sheets will be available at orientation. Checks: Any payment brought to school must be in the form of a check...(EXCEPT for the $3.00 that is part of your child's school supplies list. That should be cash.) All checks and/or order forms must be in an envelope labeled appropriately... Child Name, Teacher Name, Activity (Book Club, SAC, Clothing Order, etc) and To Whom the payment is going. DayStar: This has been the Kindergarten Mission for many years. DayStar is a nonprofit organization founded by the Sisters of St. Joseph. It is a highly specialized foster care and day care program designed to provide care to infants and toddlers with special needs. Dress Code: The Kindergartners do not wear the school uniform. The "Dress Down" requirements, located in the School Handbook on the web, do apply to Kindergartners. Please dress your child appropriately for the weather. Sneakers are the best choice every day and must be worn on our P. E. days!!! Field Trips: We will go on several field trips throughout the year. Adult chaperones are requested for all trips. We travel to our field trips by school bus, secured through First Child. Chaperones meet us at the field trips. Field trip forms will be sent home well in advance. All chaperones must have completed the Creating a Safe Environment (C. A. S. E.) course. We ask that chaperones secure alternate care for younger siblings. Lunch: We eat lunch in our classroom. The milk order is delivered and stored in our classroom refrigerator each day. Hot lunch is available on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. Order forms are available online. Hot lunch may be ordered every two months throughout the year. Answers to your questions can be found through the SLS website. Please remember to send utensils, if necessary. Mass and Prayer Services: You are invited to attend all School Masses and Prayer Services. You may join us as we enter the church doors and walk down the aisle with us to our seats toward the front of the church. Please ask your child to wear his/her RED K t-shirt on days that we attend mass! Notes to Teacher/School: Please place any notes to school in your child's "Take Home Folder". The note does not have to be placed in an envelope. Please make sure that the note is clearly addressed. Outdoor Play: We play outside every day, weather permitting! Please dress your child appropriately! In the Winter months, your child will need snow pants, coat, hat, mittens and boots. (You may leave one pair of snow pants at school so that your child does not have to carry the pants each day.) Parent/Teacher Conferences: Conferences are held in November for all students. Sign-up sheets will be available at orientation. If a parent or teacher deems an additional conference is necessary, contact may be made. Room Parents: A request for two Room Parents (who will assist me with various activities, organize celebrations, contact parents for special events, etc.) will be made at orientaion. If you are interested, please sign-up at orientation. Scholastic Book Club: Once a month, your child will bring home an order form for Scholastic Book Club. You are not obligated to purchase anything. Instructions and a due date will come with the form. Each time you order, the classroom receives bonus points to use toward purchasing books and materials for the classroom. You may order online and our classroom receives a free book. Snack Time: Please send a nutritious snack with your child every day. We will eat some time between 9:30 and 10:00 in the morning. The children will have an optional snack time during their Free Choice time at 2:10. It is helpful to place the snack in your child's backpack, separate from his/her lunch box. Please remember a fork or spoon, if necessary. One item is plenty for snack...no extra drinks, please. Special Classes: Descriptions of our Specials can be found on the KS Website subpage under "Class Schedule". Thursday Envelopes: These are communication envelopes that are sent home with the oldest or only child at St. Louis School, every other Thursday. Contents may also be found on the website. When you receive your envelope, please empty the contents, sign the front of the envelope and place the envelope back into your child's backpack to be returned the next day!!! Water Bottles: Please send a full bottle of water to school with your child every day. Your child should be able to uncap the bottle by him/herself. The children will have access to this water throughout the day.
