Musicals! Hey there! I decided to add a new page for live-action movies that are mostly sung. Disney movies still fall under the category of animated films, so they won't be found here. A Musical is usually a movie that is made from a broadway show that is nearly all sung. Find the reviews below! Calamity Jane--(*****) THis is the funniest comedy about the Wild West! Doris Day stars as Calamity Jane, a girl who can ride and shoot as well as any man. She decides to go to Chicago, IL to find an actress who will star on the stage at the Golden Garter in Deadwood City. What she finds is Katie Brown, though she thinks she is bringing back a real actress, she is really only bringing her costume girl! A hilarious movie that teaches Calamity that friendship is found in interesting places. She also learns a thing or two about love. Check it out; the music is great, too!(D) Chess: In Concert--(*****) Chess is an unbelievably beautiful musical about the game of Chess. The American chess player, Freddie, and the Russian chess player, Anatoly, come together to play for the World Championship Chess Game in Italy during the Cold War. The story plays out that the American's second, Florence Vassy, falls in love with the Russian; Anatoly wins and then defects to Britain. Happily ever after doesn't last long for the two as things come together for trouble at the following year's Championship Match. The lovers are driven apart including politics, chess, and family. The music in this show is phenomenal, but some of the themes are adult! (D)
