I will follow Bay District Guidelines for grading in our classroom.

The scale is:

A  100-90

B    89-80

C    79-70

D    69-60

F    59-0

Grades in all subject areas will be assigned based on each student’s mastery of the Florida Standards and Next Generation Sunshine State Standards.  A variety of assessments will be used to document student achievement.  Parents will be informed of student progress in all areas.  Summative assessments will be sent home in the Take Home Folder.

Weekly Spelling Lists:

Our weekly spelling list will come home on Monday in the agenda book.  Spelling tests will be taken on Fridays, online at Spelling City.  Your child is welcome to study and do activities online at that website throughout the week.

Vocabulary:

The vocabulary word list will also be included with the spelling words.  Vocabulary tests will also be given on Fridays.  Students will participate in many activities throughout the week designed to practice and incorporate the new vocabulary words.

English Language Arts:

Our Language Arts grades will primarily be taken from the following areas:

1. Guided Reading Activities/Observation of student work

2. Vocabulary Tests

3. Book Club Tasks/Assignments

4. Some Assessments from Harcourt Storytown Basal Reader (very few)

5. FSA preparatory activities in the area of Reading Skills

6. Weekly Reading At Home/Reading Folder

7. Writing Assessments

8. Spelling Tests

9. Grammar Activities

Math:

Math assessments will be given frequently with our new math series.  Formative assessments will not count as a grade, but will be entered into the online gradebook with a 0% weight.  Summative assessments will be weighted for a grade in varying categories.

Science/Social Studies:

To determine mastery of grade level standards in these areas, a variety of assessments will be used.  Assessment will be documented through student-generated projects, special assignments, and post-unit tests.  Criteria for mastery and scoring guides will be discussed and made available when the assignment is given.

*Open book tests will not be allowed to be retaken.
