Welcome Rose's Rock Stars » Grading Policies

Grading Policies Grading Policies

I will follow Bay District Guidelines for grading in our classroom.  The scale is:

A  100-90

B    89-80

C    79-70

D    69-60

F    59-0

Grades in all subject areas will be assigned based on each student’s mastery of the Florida Sunshine State Standards.  A variety of assessments will be used to document student achievement.  Parents will be informed of student progress in all areas.  Summative assessments will be signed by parents and returned each week in the Take Home Folder.

Weekly Spelling Lists:

Our weekly spelling list will come home on Monday in the newsletter.  On Wednesday, we will have a pre-test.  Students scoring 90% or higher will be given a list of challenge words for Friday’s test.  Those scoring below 90%, will retake the initial spelling list on Friday.

Vocabulary:

The vocabulary word list will also be included in the weekly newsletter.  Vocabulary tests will also be given on Fridays.  Students will participate in many activities throughout the week designed to practice and incorporate the new vocabulary words.

Reading:

Our reading grades will primarily be taken from the following areas:

1. Guided Reading Activities/Observation of student work

2. Vocabulary Tests

3. Book Club Tasks/Assignments

4. Some Assessments from Basal Reader

5. FCAT preparatory activities in the area of Reading Skills

6. Weekly Reading At Home/Reading Folder

Writing:

1. Timed Writings

2. Writing Assessments

3. Spelling Tests

4. Grammar Activities

Math:

Math assessments will be given after every 5 lessons to check for mastery of concepts.

Science/Social Studies:

To determine mastery of grade level standards in these areas, a variety of assessments will be used.  Assessment will be documented through student-generated projects, special assignments, and post-unit tests.  Criteria for mastery and scoring guides will be discussed and made available when the assignment is given.
