                                       November 6, 2017

St. Augustine Field Trip:  Two weeks ago, I sent home an email regarding the St. Augustine field trip in February.  If you have not already, please fill out this quick little survey so I can get a head count.  Thanks!  Click HERE

Report Cards:  Report Cards went home on Friday.  Please be sure to return the signed slip and the signed envelope.  Thank you!

Canned Food Drive: The Patronis canned food drive will be from Monday, November 6th- Friday November 17th.

We will donate the food to The Salvation Army and Food 4 Kidz. There are a few guidelines for the food drive:

We accept cans or boxes of food- No glass.
No perishable items.
Please do not break packages apart and count as multiple items. ie. fruit or applesauce cups.

Patronis has done a canned food drive for many, many years and we have almost always been the top donor by number of cans. We have raised over 3,000 cans each year for the past 4 years!  Student Council has set a goal of 100 cans per class. The classes in first, second and third place will be announced mid drive.

*** The winning class will get to throw pies at Mrs. Spivey and Mrs. Loyed!!! ***

ELA: We will NOT have ELA assessments this week, but please be aware that your child has an assignment due this Thursday.  (Information below)

Writing: Your child brought home instructions for an "At Home Project" that is due this Thursday, November 9th.  Students are to write a "What Christmas Means to Me" essay to try to win the chance to help Panama City Beach's Mayor, Mike Thomas, with the lighting of the tree.

Math:  Math tests from Module 2 are coming home today.  I found that all of the errors were from not thoroughly reading the directions.  We talked extensively about this before taking the test and I read the questions to the boys and girls before we began.  Conversions were posted on the board.  It's imperative that they take time to read and reread what is being asked of them.  These assessments are being given across the District to all 4th grade students at each school.

Module 3-Multiplication.  If your child needs extra practice on basic math facts for addition, subtraction, or multiplication, please have your child practice these at home nightly!

Science: Unit 2-Earth's Place in Space.

Social Studies: Unit 2-Exploration and Colonization of Florida.  We will begin reading this Unit, but will not have a test this week.

Homework: Parents, I need your help, please!  Many students are not doing their assigned homework of reading and getting their reading log signed.  Also, each night your child has an internet assignment at home (if you have internet).  I am finding that many of the boys and girls are simply just not doing what they have been assigned.  I am sending home the reading log just about every day with the exception of Fridays or if we have something going on during the day that throws our schedule off.  Example: (Diamond Del, picture retakes, etc.)  It is imperative that your child be responsible and bring you the log to sign.  I am able to track the students' progress on all online programs and see who is working at home and who isn't.  If you can please help me with this, it would be greatly appreciated.  Reading should be no less than at least 20 to 30 minutes an evening.  This will help your child be successful in the reading process.

*AR goals started over today and will go through January 11th.  Students will have a Pajama Party on Friday, January 12th if they meet their AR goal.  No students should have less than 20 points this grading period.  We have three weeks off of school total for Thanksgiving Break and Winter Break that students may get in some great reading addition to nightly reading.

Behavior: ALL students should be following the Panther Code of Conduct.  The first grading period I had to send home many notes, emails, make phone calls and fill out Parent Alerts regarding behavior.  Now that we have 9 weeks under our belts, there should not be as many issues regarding behavior.  Please remind your child to follow the appropriate school and classroom rules.  Thank you so much for helping me and supporting me in this.

Panther Code:
I Can Listen.
I Can Use Good Manners.
I Can Respect Others.
I Can Be Kind.
I Can Walk Quietly With My Hands By My Side.

Patronis Character Traits:

At the end of December, this class website will no longer be available.  The company I have been using for 10+ years will no longer provide hosting services.  I am really bummed, but I will come up with a different plan before then to be sure I have a website to host Class News, Homework, etc.  I will let you know as soon as I have made that decision and switched services.
