Grading Policy Grading Policy

Grading
Grading in each class will be based on the total points system.  Each assignment/activity/tests will be given a “points possible” amount.  The teacher will then grade each assignment/activity/tests and then assign a “points earned” total.  The grade for this assignment will be computed by dividing the “points earned” by the “points possible”.

Homework
Homework assignments are expected to be neat and completed on time. Each student will receive a “homework grade. The student begins each marking period with a 100. For each homework assignment missing, the student will lose 5 points. It is possible for the student to “make-up” the assignment WITHIN a week and earn back a maximum of 4 points.

Notebook Checks
Notebook checks will be done at the end of each unit. Students are expected to take notes during class and keep ALL materials together throughout the unit.  The following is a list of necessary items to be kept in their notebooks and will be used in the assessment process:

Class Notes            Two Column Notes          Key Terms
Worksheets            Quizzes/Tests                    Current Events
Writing Prompts    Progress Reports

Class Participation
This is the most important aspect of the student’s educational experience. I encourage all students to actively and respectfully participate in class discussions, work together cooperatively with their peers, BE ON TIME, come to class PREPARED, and STAY ORGANIZED.

Tests/Quizzes
Tests and Quizzes will account for 2/3rds of the students’ overall average. Quizzes will be given often with a minimum of one days notice. However, they will never be unannounced. Tests will be given at the end of each unit and will be announced AT LEAST a week in advance.

*ALL TESTS AND QUIZZES WITH A FAILING GRADE MUST BE SIGNED*

Late Work
Late work may be turned in at a penalty of one letter grade per day.  All late work must be placed in the late work box.  Please do not give your work to Mr. Pepper or place it on his desk, because it will be lost.  If your work is not placed in the box, it will not be graded.

Grading Percentages
Unit Tests                          40%
