We will begin working on speeches for the upcoming Tropicana Speech Contest.  All students will be required to write and present a speech to our class.  The class contest is tentatively set for Tuesday, May 8th.  Each class in grades 4-6 will send their Class winner to the school wide contest.  More information regarding how to write a speech will be sent home as time allows us to review the information in class first.  We plan to work on speeches after FCAT testing in the mornings, just depending on how much time we have left before lunch each day.

Reminders:

Due to FCAT, we will have a slightly different schedule in the afternoons.  Our lunch time will remain the same.

Afternoon Schedule for 4/16- 4/27

Math/Science Class 1—11:30-12:15

Special Area 12:15-1:00

Math/Science Class 2—1:00-1:50

Please remember to rest and relax over the weekend.  Make sure you arrive to school promptly next week!  All of our students are rested, relaxed, and ready for the FCAT!!!

9. Science Homework

We are having to pack a lot of science material into the next two weeks before FCAT!  Therefore, students MUST read the lessons before class.  I PROMISE that I will teach them the material in class the following day, but it makes class a lot more productive when the students have a general idea about what we will read.  Please help your child to remember to read for Science this week!  I know that I will have some anxious students that want to read it all in one night, but please follow the schedule so that I have a chance to provide further instruction before reading ahead.  Also, do not tear out pages from the lessons-- only the review pages at the end of lessons are torn out.  Here are the reading assignments:

Over the weekend (this was assigned Friday):

Read Unit 8 Lesson 1, pages 336-347 & complete the yellow boxes

Monday Night:

read pages 372-381 (skip pg. 374-375), Complete the yellow boxes

Tuesday Night:

read pages 422-431 and complete yellow boxes

Wednesday Night:

pages 433-434 Brain Check & Apply Concepts

On Thursday we will be taking a Sample FCAT Test for Science to acquaint students with the format and types of questions on the test.  This will be used for a Daily Grade (30%).

After that, we will be using a workbook to review.  I only have a class set of this workbook, so students are not allowed to take this home.  Please make every effort for your child to be at school and not check out early-- as this is not something they can complete at home.

I am so excited for the students to show what they have learned about Science on the FCAT!  I know that they will do AWESOME!
