Victor Cub Scout Pack 60 » Leave No Trace Award

Leave No Trace Award Leave No Trace Award

Each level of Cub Scout has specific requirements and is written on each Den's Page, plus:

Hike #1:  Boughton Hill Park 12/08

Hike #2:  Mendon Ponds Park, Bird Song Trail 1/09

HIke #3:  Dryer Road Park, 3/7/09

Take 3 hikes with your family and/or Den/Pack with the leaders (adults) discussing the Leave No Trace Guidelines:

Plan ahead: watch for hazards and follow all rules of the park or outdoor facility. Wear proper clothing, sunscreen, hats, first aid kit, plenty of drinking water. Use the buddy system, make sure you carry your family's name, telephone number and address.

Stick to trails: Stay on marked trails whenever possible. Trampled wildflowers and Vegetation takes years to recover. Shortcutting trails causes the soil to wear away or to be packed, which eventually kills trees and other vegetation.

Manage your pet: Keep your pet on a leash and controlled at all times. Do not let your pet chase or approach wildlife. Take care of your pet's waste.

Leave what your find: Try to leave the outdoors the same as your find it. No picking flowers, breaking tree branches.

Respect other visitors: Be courteous and make room for others. Control your speed when biking or running. Pass with care and let others know before you pass. Avoid disturbing others by making noise or playing loud music. Respect "No Trespassing" signs.

Trash your trash: Make sure all trash is put in a bag or trash receptacle. Your trash can kill wildlife. Squirrels cannot digest bubble gun, it will eventually kill them. Even materials such as orange peels, apple cores and food scraps takes years to break down and may attract unwanted pests that could become a problem.
