About the teacher

Hello! I am your teacher, Mrs. Amy Gifford! This is my fifth year teaching at Pulaski Middle, and I have enjoyed working with the wonderful faculty here! I graduated from Radford University in 2007 with my teaching degree in math and Language Arts. I married the most wonderful man in the world on December 27, 2008 and we have just had our first child, Joel Adam Gifford on August 30, 2011. Our lives have always been happy, but our joy is overflowing now!
For my hobbies, I like to play the keyboard and sing. I also enjoy taking pictures and creating photo books. I am always searching for ways to decorate our house, so I suppose that could be my hobby too!
I truly enjoy my job as a teacher because I get to spend my day working with wonderful young people. I do my best every day to bring the best education possible as if these students were my very own. ====
Here are some journal starters that might let you know more about me:
1) If I were a color, I'd say I would be yellow. I am a very happy person and I always look at the bright side of things. I expect the best from everyone.
2) My favorite room would have to be my living room in my house. It's so quiet and comfortable. My husband and I just moved into our house in May of 2010 and it's really the only room I feel that is complete with deocorations that coordinate. :) 3) My first job was working as a dance teacher's assistant. I worked there from 9th - 12th grade in exchange for my tuition at the studio. I taught tap, jazz and ballet. My favorite style of dance was tap though because I love the rhythm. 4) The biggest thing I've ever seen is the Great Rift Valley in Africa. I went to Africa on a mission trip in my college years, and seeing the miles and miles of the sandy plains with the flat trees and beautiful sunshine was absolutely breathtaking from the top. 5) Something I fear would have to be bugs/spiders. I hate the feeling of sticky webbs because it makes me feel creepy-crawly. If someone else is around, I will ask him/her to kill the bugs for me, but if I'm by myself... I will be brave. :) 6) If I had the opportunity to compete in any Olympic Event, I would probably choose gymnastics because it's graceful, it's intense to watch, and I'd be really muscular. :) ==== My goals this year are to provide quality instruction for the students while I'm out on maternity leave, and to make the reading program (through Accelerated Reading and novel reading) better than it has ever been! I can be reached by my work phone, 643-0867, or by email (agifford@pcva.us). The more you communicate with me, the better my class will be for everyone! I look forward to a GREAT year!
