Welcome to Mrs. Emens U.S. History Class! 

About me:  This is my 5th year of teaching and my 1st year at Stafford Middle School in Frisco.  Each year I strive to help my students experience history through interactive activities and further appreciate the gift it is to live in the United States.

Class Objectives: 

1.  To obtain authentic learning.

2.  For all students to achieve commended status on the Social Studies TAKS test in the spring.

3.  For all students to enjoy learning about the rich country of the country that we live in.

Curriculum and Content:  This class will cover the colonization of North America through the Civil War and Reconstruction of the United States.  The curriculum will focus on the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills as specified by the Texas Education Agency.  (This information is available online at www.tea.state.tx.us/teks/)  Students will use a variety of process skills including chronological thinking, organizing and explaining information, analyzing and interpreting data, doing research, and communicating orally, graphically, and in writing.

Materials:  Each day students must have their U.S. History flashcards, student agenda, and U.S. History binder.  This binder serves as a student created textbook and contains all necessary class information.
