Spanish 4 syllabus 2008-2009

Español 4 Señora Elniski

Classroom Expectations

Academics

A. Materials: Textbook, Workbook

3-Ring Binder/ Paper

Spanish/English Dictionary to keep at home

B. Objective:

C. Homework:

All homework assignments are to be completed on time and will often be collected and graded. When you are absent from class, you are responsible for getting the assignment and doing it as soon as possible.

Note: You are not excused from an assignment due to late arrival, field trips, early dismissal, etc. It is your responsibility to find out what was assigned for the next day and complete that work.

D. Tests/Quizzes:

You will always be given prior notice for a test. Tests will cover one or more chapters. Quizzes may or may not be announced ahead. They will cover vocabulary or grammar that has been recently reviewed in class. Being absent from class a day or two before the test DOES NOT excuse you from taking the test as scheduled. If you are absent from class the day of the test, you will take it the day you return to school, during class, study hall, or the Learning Center. If you are returning from a prolonged absence, see me to make arrangements for taking the test.

E. Grades:

Final grades are an average of test grades, quiz grades, projects, homework, written assignments and class participation (performance, pronunciation, volunteering of answers and general involvement in class activities). Uncooperative and inconsiderate conduct will also be considered in arriving at the final grade, as it affects the performance and progress of the entire class.

F. Extra Help:

If you feel that you need extra help, or are having trouble understanding a concept, please come and see me as soon as possible.

Behavior

A. You are expected to show mutual respect and courtesy at all times. Remember that this is a foreign language and everyone is allowed to make mistakes in order to learn. Do not laugh at another’s mistake.

B. You are expected to be on time for class unless you have a legal excuse/pass. Do not ask to be excused early unless you have a legal excuse. Take care of lavatory issues before or after class. Tardiness and unnecessary interruptions (going to the bathroom, to your locker, etc.) disrupt the class and are inconsiderate to everyone.

C. In order to get the most out of the class, there will be no talking out of turn in class. This includes interrupting the class with questions unrelated to the lesson. Unnecessary interruptions will affect the flow of the lesson and slow the progress of the entire class. If you are concerned about something, please see me after class.

D. There will be neither food/drink nor gum chewing in class. It is difficult to chew and speak a foreign language at the same time.

E. Purses/Bags are to be kept off of the desk and students will not be able to access these items once class has begun.

Keep this syllabus in your binder at all times as a resource.

Let’s have a wonderful year! ~ Mrs. Elniski
