Policy On Homework
|
|
Homework Homework will be given every night, Monday through Thursday. Phonics and math homework will be given just about each night. Other assignments may include spelling, handwriting, or reading. Homework papers will be stapled together and brought home in your child's homework folder each night. Your child's homework folder has a "Keep Home" and a "Bring Back" side. (If your child chose to use a folder other than the one provided by the school, his/her folder will not have the sides labeled). Homework papers will always be on the "Bring Back" side of the homework folder. Correspondence from the school, (ie. lunch menus, monthly news, PTO info., etc...) will be on the "Keep Home" side. Please look at you child's homework folder every night so that you may take out any papers that need to be emptied or fill in papers to be returned. In looking at homework, it generally follows the same pattern, which is as follows: Phonics: Students will complete the phonics worksheet used during the class lesson. They will be practicing their word coding and comprehension skills. Math: A worksheet reinforcing the lesson is typically given each day. Additionally, students should be practicing their addition and subtraction math facts, which can be found in their binders. Reading: Some days (usually once or twice a week), guided reading books will be sent home with the children. Guided reading books should be read at home that night, and they are to be returned to school with the student the next day. Please sign off that your child has read the book as well, and feel free to leave comments in regards to your child's reading of the book. Also, two practice books will be sent home weekly in the students' binders. Please practice reading them at home! :) *Please note-Although the children do not get homework on a Friday, they still always have a job to do. They will always bring home a Friday Folder. Their "homework" will be to give you the folder, look through it and discuss their good work or any problem papers together, keep the papers at home, have you sign it, and return it to their bookbag to give to me on Monday. This is the only place that the children's classwork and tests will be placed to be sent home, unless I feel that something should be sent home sooner. If classwork is ever sent home before Friday, it will be placed in the "Keep Home" side of your child's homework folder and should be removed as indicated. This is to keep their homework folder from getting cluttered with old papers. If I ever send home a test that I would like to have you sign and return, I will not send that specific test home on a Friday.
