D.A.R.E Essay Due Monday, January 23

Below find the topic and requirements for your D.A.R.E. essay.  THIS ESSAY IS REQUIRED FOR D.A.R.E GRADUATION!!!  THIS ESSAY WILL ALSO BE 1/2 OF YOUR HEALTH GRADE FOR YOUR REPORT CARD!!!  THIS IS AN AT HOME PROJECT!!!

Topic:  Write a letter to the mayor of Tracy and the City Council.  In your letter, explain why D.A.R.E. explaining to the community the importance of the DARE program.  Include the value of the skills you have learned and how you will use your skills in the future to be successful.  You can also include how the DARE program benefits the community through community service projects which we have done and how DARE builds character in you and other students.

Requirements:  Please use the whole writing process of brainstorming, writing a rough draft, revising, editing, and the typing/writing your final draft.  All of these parts of the writing process will be expected to be turned in with your final draft.  Final copies need to be 1 and 1/2 typed pages no bigger than 16 font, 1 and 1/2 space lines, or 2 handwritten pages. 

Evaluation of your Essay: 

1. State a clear position in support of your topic

2. Support your position with relevant evidence

3. Follow a simple organizational pattern

4. Address reader concerns
