SPELLING CONTRACT ASSIGNMENTS Each week you may select from the following assignments below. You can see that each assignment has a point value based on the difficulty of the assignment. The more points you earn the higher your grade for that week will be. 8 points and 5 points would be a perfect score and is rarely given. Of course whether you earn the full points listed for each assignment is dependent on the assignment being done well and neatly. 1. Alphabetize the words.(5 points cursive; 4 points printing) 2. Make a set of flash cards for studying your words at home with your parents. Bring the flash cards to school on Friday with a parent note that they studied with you.(5 points) 3. America Research Project: Colony at Jamestown or French and Indian War
REPORT IS DUE FRIDAY, November 20 Gather your information using the note taking paraphrasing skills we have worked on. Remember the note taking skills we taught you: 1. Read a section;
2. close the book or turn off the computer screen;
3. Write in your own words what you read;
4. try to add your own comments and opinions about what you are learning. Try to use more than one source of information, e.g. a book, internet websites found through Google searches, encyclopedia, etc. In your report record your sources of information.
If at all possible, you should put your report into a cover and use a computer for your final draft. You should have a title page, table of contents, your actual report divided and labeled by topic, illustrations(your own drawings, not pictures downloaded from the internet), maps, and a bibliography.
REQUIREMENTS:
YOU WILL HAVE THE CHOICE OF TWO PROJECTS TO WORK ON THIS UNIT. ONE OF THE CHOICES WILL BE A RESEARCH REPORT ON THE FRENCH AND INDIAN WAR. THE OTHER PROJECT CHOICE IS TO WRITE A BRIEF REPORT ON THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN POWHATAN INDIANS AND THE SETTLERS AT JAMESTOWN INCLUDING WRITING ABOUT THE CHIEF OF THE INDIANS, POWHATAN AND HIS DAUGHTER POCAHONTAS AND JOHN ROLFE AND JOHN SMITH.
FRENCH AND INDIAN WAR
1.Your report should begin with an introduction telling your reader what you want them to learn from your report.
2.Describe France's settlement in North America
3.What was the major reason the war was fought?
4.How did the war that began in 1754 move forward? Why did the French do so well at first? What did England do to turn the war in their favor?
5.Describe what role George Washington played in the War
6.Describe the Treaty of Paris.
7.Any other ideas that you have to include in your report would be fantastic.
8.A concluding paragraph describing what you learned from your report, or what you found to be most interesting to learn about.
THE POWHATAN INDIANS AND THE COLONISTS AT JAMESTOWN
1. Briefly tell me about the Powhatan Indians and the colonists at Jamestown.
2. Briefly tell me about each of the folowing people: John Smith; John Rolfe; Indian Chief Powhatan; his daughter Pocahontas.
3. Give examples of how the Powhatan Indians and the colonists at Jamestown cooperated and worked together.
4. Give examples of problems and conflicts between the Powhatan Indians and the colonists at Jamestown. 5.Make a poster about the cooperation between the Indians and the colonists. Mr. C will give you some information that will help you with this part of the project.
