Art Home Mrs. Wilson's Art Room K-4

We are always exploring different media and working on many exciting projects during art. We learn about and apply the elements of art (color, line, shape, form, space, texture, value) as well as the principles of art (pattern, contrast, emphasis, movement, balance, proportion, repetition, variety, unity, rhythm).

Students are introduced to the works of famous artists through the “Meet The Artist” wall.  We also explore the arts and crafts of different cultures.  Drawing, painting, collage, printing and sculpture are some of the techniques we use in art.  Our lessons address the Massachusetts Arts Curriculum Frameworks.

Why Do Students Need Art?

        • Art develops students' creative problem-solving and critical thinking skills
        • Art  gives students a deeper understanding of multi-cultural values and beliefs
        • Art  allows students to express themselves creatively
        • Art  enhances and brings to life what students learn in other subjects
        • Art promotes students self esteem
