I believe that homework is a vital component of a student’s learning experience. It extends learning opportunities beyond the confines of the school day and is generally reinforcement or practice of a skill or concept previously learned in class. In addition, homework also helps students develop good study habits and organizational skills.
What is second grade math homework?
In second grade, math homework will be assigned Monday through Thursday. Homework will not usually be assigned on weekends, unless the student has missing homework. Homework should take no longer than twenty minutes to complete, not including studying for tests or working on projects. If your child is consistently taking longer to complete homework, please contact me.
What happens to/with homework?
All homework is to be completed by each student to the best of his or her ability. If an assignment is not completed satisfactorily by a student and to the best of their ability, they will be required to finish or re-do the homework during recess. I will review and return all homework assignments which are turned in by the student.
Homework that is incomplete, handed in late, or without a name is not accepted except under extenuating circumstances such as an illness or emergency. In such cases, a note from a parent or guardian is required. Homework needs to be passed in on time, or it will be completed during recess/free time.
In the event that a student is absent, the student may or may not be required to make up the homework assignment(s) which were missed. Simply providing a student with a list of assignments due to absences does not begin to cover the instruction missed. It is often difficult to make up work presented in class since homework is often a direct follow-up to classroom instruction. I feel that it would be more beneficial to your child, after returning to school and meeting with me, for me to assess what assignments should be completed. I hope that this helps alleviate stress related to being sick, staying home, and missing work.
How is homework graded?
All math homework that is assigned will be checked for completion, neatness, and for being completed according to the directions. Most importantly, homework is a means for me to assess the
student’s understanding of the subject matter. It helps me to determine what concepts the students have or have not mastered. Thus, the students are encouraged to try their best!!
