MORE THAN HALF WAY TO GRADUATION!!!! We've all survived the toughest part of the math curriculum and most students worked very hard this past trimester. Some students did not fare as well due to absences, the 8th grade/mid-year blues, or kids just being uber-social teenagers! :) All students know where they stand with their grades and acquisition of skills, and more importantly, they know how to better their situations if they are not happy with their grades. It's not "all about the grades" generally, but it sure is when you are trying to graduate! The focus for the remainder of the year is to continue to prepare for the MCAS! We have few "new" topics left to cover, but the quality of questions on 8th grade MCAS are definately more complex. This requires the students to be more diligent in re-reading questions, utilizing strategies they have learned over the years, and checking their work. As you might imagine, kids at this age don't like to do these things unless their feet are held to the fire, so as you can imagine, we are building an enormous barn fire in the arts center! Just kidding...we are encouraging the kids to be as diligent as possible, stressing the importance of their focus for the rest of the year...not an easy task. Intervention time is available to all students once a week if they need help in math or any subject. Any student can request additional help by contacting a teacher before that intervention time period. Intervention time is embedded into their schedules just for that purpose and students are encouraged to be proactive about their education. We are available via email which is probably the most efficient way to communicate with us; kristen.pavao@atlantiscs.org and mmiranda@atlantiscs.org.
