"Intelligence plus character – that is the goal of true education." –Martin Luther King Jr. Our classroom community creates the opportunity for students, parents and teachers to work together to reach common goals. Students are taught with research based instructional methods. One student summarized the principles of our learning community in the following letter to a Korean pen pal. The following is an excerpt from that letter. Dear Cindy, All of Miss Ficke’s students are part of a community. Our class attends community meetings to talk about any school problems, as well as, share new ideas to improve our class. The definition of a community is any group living in the same area or having interests or common qualities (Wikipedia). Maybe we don’t live together but we are in the same classroom and share the same interests. In addition, we are all still different in our own ways!
