I am sure that many of you are familiar with the Reading Workshop model.  Just in case there is some confusion here is a basic run down of the workshop model:

Mini lesson:  Where skills are introduced, practiced and used.

Engagement: Where you child uses the skill

Practice: Where you child will use the skill(s) in their independent reading

Share: Where you child will share their thoughts, questions and observation of what they have read, or the skill they have used.

We use this model daily as well as other components of balanced literacy such as guided reading, shared reading and interactive read aloud.  As you can see literacy is a major component of your child's day.
