1B Parents and Caregivers,

Donations of paper towels, disinfectant wipes, and tissues are being accepted in order to keep us and our classroom as clean as possible during the cold and flu season.  They would be greatly appreciated!!!!

SNACK TIME:  Please provide 1 healthy snack for your child each day.  Lately, many students without a snack are asking others to share their snacks. This is not allowed unless a child has brought something extra.

Library Books:  We visit the library each Wednesday for either borrowing books or to work on the computers. We switch these 2 activities. Please remember that your child can read and reread his/her selected book for the entire 2 weeks.  Aside from not having the space to keep them in the room, your child can continue to enjoy the book for the entire 2 weeks.  Parents, if you are noticing that your child is selecting a book that is too difficult or not really fitting his/her interest, please send in a note explaining the "misfit". We can give your child guidance when choosing a good "just right" book.

Jacket, sweaters, and sweatshirts all need your child's name written on the label!!  Everyone wears the same uniform outerwear!!  Please help by writing with permanent ink. Also only school uniform sweaters and vests are allowed to be worn in the classroom.  Please wear sneakers to school on Tuesdays and Fridays for Gym.  We do not have time for changing footwear during the day.

Loose shoe laces are becoming very dangerous!!!!! We've had several accidents so far!  Please teach this necessary lesson at home!  This is really important!!

Reminder: The Purple Homework/Communication folders and Behavior Reports come to school everyday.  Please make sure your child has his/her folder in their backpack each morning. I do not go into these folders looking for things.  It is your child's responsibility to unpack his/her backpack each morning. Those unfamiliar with this routine need to practice at home.  And of course each child is responsible for taking out the homework and writing his/her own name on it!!!!!!!!

Breakfast is very important to your child's learning!!! Please allow time each morning to provide your child with this important meal to sustain him/her throughout the morning.

Homework needs your attention please!!  The completed Word Study packet is due every Friday morning.  When completing 1 page each evening, please guide your child with the instructions and also with making any corrections.  Your signature is also needed on the front.  Please make sure the staple is in place when your child returns it to school.  This saves us time when pages do not have any names on them and we have to find the right owners!!!  Thank you for all the homework packets that do come back to school stapled together, signed, and completed.  (If you have any questions about the directions, please contact me.)

Handwriting Practice!!!!!!!!  In first grade the students write (print) on a regular basis--daily!! I am noticing that reinforcement is required, especially in the proper use of lower and  upper case letters.  We always use lower case letters except for the beginning of names, titles, and sentences.  Please practice any difficult letters at home.  You may notice these when looking over the homework.  Any questions, please see me for a letter praticing kit.

Attention see below:

******PLEASE LABEL ALL SWEATERS, SWEATSHIRTS, AND JACKETS with your child's full name and 1B!!!!!!!!!!  All the Atlantis sweaters look the same (yikes!!)---help us by writing your child's name with pen or marker on the tag.  A uniform reminder:  only Atlantis sweaters can be worn in the classroom.  Any others can only be worn at recess for outside wear.  Please think of this when the colder weather comes.

**Unlabeled and unclaimed sweaters and jackets will be placed in Lost and Found!!!!!!  Please help your child gain responsibility by becoming aware of his/her belongings and taking care of them!!

Needed at home:  A sturdy shoe box is strongly suggested for keeping Word Study activities in at home.  Your child will be coming home with activities.  These activities can be used at home to reinforce classroom learning.  Your child can read the words not only to you, but a stuffed animal or family pet can also substitute as "good listeners"!!

Scholastic Book Ordering: Thank you for the October orders.  They will be arriving soon.  The November book orders will be coming home soon.  All orders are due            . Please completely fill out the form on each order, total the amounts of all orders, and send cash, checks or money orders in a labeled envelope by the due date.  Checks and money orders need to be made out to Scholastic Book Clubs.  (Your orders help to earn free books for the classroom!! (And Mrs. Trond just loves new books for her students!!)

Thank you for being super partners in your child's education!!
